Alfreton Town JFC 2008
Having been given a mandate from A.T.J.F.C. in the summer of 2008 to form an under 15's squad for the '08/'09 season, Tel Greenwood (Manager) and Martin Carpenter (Team Coach) invited and brought together initially 14 lads. The team consisted of players from as many as 7 different local Saturday and Sunday Youth football teams and early on we took a decision to base ourselves at Lea Green Development and Conference Centre and Lea Village, both for training and matches.
With a difficult start to the season, the team struggled to get results, however, before too long, having experimented with players in different positions, hard work, dedication and commitment from the lads began to show through with positive results and by Christmas 2008, we were starting to raise a few eyebrows in Division 1 of the Rowsley & District Youth Football League.
Adding several more players to the squad in vital positions after a terrible winter of cancelled matches has culminated in strong mid-season performances against mid and top table opposition. Meanwhile, we were having a good run in the Primary Cup, winning through to a cup final to be played against Parkhouse FC.
The latter part of our first season together will be a big test with a considerable number of midweek fixtures having to be fitted in prior to the close of season. However, the lads who have remained loyal to the mission have certainly given a fantastic foundation for the building of an even stronger squad next season which we all look forward to.
