ALFRETON’S TENACITY WINS THROUGH

MATLOCK TOWN PUMAS JFC U16’S -  2   ALFRETON TOWN JFC U16’S -  4

Alfreton’s second league game of the season took them away to Cavendish Fields Matlock, for what would prove to be a testing encounter against the Pumas.  With many school mates on either side, it was set to be a frenetic encounter which all the players delivered on cue.  It was Alfreton however who set the tempo early on with Higton latching on to a long ball to score after just seven minutes on the clock, Kinsella held well in the centre & Griffiths showed intelligent play down the left channel.  Shocked by the early goal, Pumas to their credit bounced back and piled on the pressure,  chances at both ends however weren’t taken and Pumas turned up the heat, always looking dangerous at corners, however they were held at bay by commanding performances from Hill, Pickering, Carpenter, Bullen and Greenwood. Captain & keeper for Alfreton, Harker, had dominated his domain making several fine saves and his skills were called into action again on 25 minutes when Pumas were awarded a penalty for over exuberant defending in the area.  Wilkinson stepped up for Pumas but his penalty was poor and was thwarted by the keeper who showed great vision & dived the right way to save it. Again Alfreton struck early on in the second half with a back headed goal from Church, Pumas countered straight away, this time their pressure paid off on 55 minutes, when they scored through Watratt to make it 2-1; the next goal would be crucial. Subs Arrowsmith, Spencer and Langham all added a new dimension to the game and were rewarded with further goals as on 58 minutes Church again popped up for his second of the game and a minute later Boden, who had always looked threatening down the right latched on to a ball from sub Riley to place it in the back of the net.  At 4-1 Pumas still didn’t give up the fight and threw more men forward, this added a great finale to the game with end to end attacks by both teams culminating in a goal to Matlock from Boyak in added time on 82 minutes, shortly afterwards the match being brought to its conclusion. Well done lads.
