AWESOME ALFRETON BAG 8 IN BRUISING ENCOUNTER
Huthwaite JFC U16's 1 Alfreton JFC 8
Alfreton's fourth game of the season took them away to Huthwaite. Early probing was rewarded when a penalty was awarded to Alfreton for handball after only 6 minutes which was coolly despatched by Carpenter. A battling James worked hard to double the tally just 3 minutes later with both Griffiths and Boden skilfully providing dangerous balls from the wings. It wasn't long too before Higton was rewarded for his efforts on 14 minutes with a loose ball that he sublimely tucked away. Kinsella, Riley and Greenwood all worked industriously in midfield with a great through ball from Bullen creating one of the goals, all four players making chances and snuffing out any counters. Hill once again dominated his domain with his tenacious challenges backed up by another confident display by Harker between the sticks. Both Arrowsmith and Langham stepped up to the mark, whipping in dangerous corners on demand causing Huthwaite all sorts of problems in their box. It was then James who hit a golden spell and was rewarded with his second on 20 minutes, followed by his hat trick only a minute later to make it 5-0 at half time. Spencer again showed he could ably give cover at virtually any position giving an excellent performance at right back. Shooting up the hill in the second half didn't seem to affect the reds and on just 44 minutes it was Higton who scored again showing determination to net for his second, both centre forwards demonstrating unselfish play & the beginnings of a good strike partnership. To Huthwaite's credit, they didn't give up and found a rare hole in the defence to score on 52 minutes against the run of play. Pickering worked hard to keep a touch bound ball in play and put it straight into the Huthwaite box which was lobbed beyond the keeper by Higton on 63 for his hat trick. Some desperate defending by Huthwaite late on gave Alfreton their second penalty, won & converted by Higton for his fourth. A good performance well supported by parents and friends with thanks.
