ALFRETON TOWN JFC U16’S - 1 PARKHOUSE JFC - 4
Our first home game of the season brought last season's Cup Winners to Lea Green, they had set their stall out early too & were undefeated at the top of the table. Alfreton started well our formation seemed to upset the normally polished Parkhouse system & it wasn't long before Parkhouse realized that they would have a fight on their hands, with all the Alfreton lads doing their jobs well. The first half saw several opportunities & half chances missed & Parkhouse also had a couple of spells where they could have snatched a goal but the Alfreton defence held. No score at half time & everything to play for, you could sense that all wasn't as to be expected in the Parkhouse camp. The Alfreton lads hit the field running for the second half & Boden on the right took the initiative by taking on all that was thrown at him ultimately delivering a perfectly weighted & placed cross for Higton to finish sweetly on just 6 minutes into the second half. Parkhouse were in a state of shock as Alfreton began to believe that they could really upset the opposition as they created chance after chance, Parkhouse holding on by the skin of their teeth, but hold on they did as Alfreton failed to capitalize on their domination. To the Parkhouse lads credit they then demonstrated why they are in the position they are in & began to turn the tables, the only difference being that they took their chances whereas Alfreton hadn't. At 1:1 the belief that an upset was on the cards seemed to fade away & instead of continuing to take them on the earlier momentum was lost as Parkhouse went on to score a further 3 times to run out comfortably 4:1 winners. If ever a scoreline didn't reflect what had happened on the pitch this was it, but as my Grandad used to say "it's ball in the back of the net that counts" and next time that's what must be focused on.
